Shani Davis (27yrs old) is a Chicago native that has always had the God-given ability to skate. His accolades on the national skating circuit through out his teen years granted him a selection as an alternate on the 2002 Olympic team. This selection made him the first African-American chosen by the U.S Olympic team. In 2006 he became the first African-American to medal at a winter olympics (winning gold and silver) and went to win an unprecedented 7 world championships by 2009. He is the current world record holder in the 1,000m and 1,500m.
In this years winter olympics games (Vancuver, Canada Feb 12-28th) Davis is competing in all individual events. To put it into perspective he will be racing in the 500m, 1,000m, 1,500m, and the 10,000m. He is truly an all around athlete and should have a spectacular winter olympics. We pray for his health and success.
