I am not ashamed to say that my life is dedicated to the christian faith. Stated plainly in our guide for life, the holy bible, it says two specific things about prayer.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (New King James Version)
17 pray without ceasing,
James 5:16 (The Message)
16-18Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed. The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. Elijah, for instance, human just like us, prayed hard that it wouldn’t rain, and it didn’t—not a drop for three and a half years. Then he prayed that it would rain, and it did. The showers came and everything started growing again.
These texts emphasis a couple of things: We should pray without end, prayer brings unity, and prayer is powerful. The second passage even gives evidence of an individual praying and affecting the atmosphere. Some would say that prayer works but to affect the earth in that way is unrealistic. I would have to respectfully disagree. I and many others have been praying lives to be kept while help comes for the people of Haiti. It has been a week and individuals as old as 70 and as young as 15 days old have been found alive. To last that long without basic needs and with injuries (physical and psychological) is miraculous! There are situations that go beyond logic and should be attributed to the power of GOD.
Let’s keep praying! Specifically for wisdom, humility, and unity amongst the organizations and countries that are assisting in Haiti’s recovery.
